“Fáilte roimh torann do chos, ní amháin thú fhéin.”

The sound of your foot is as welcome as yourself.

– An ancient County Kerry proverb

Experience the Presence of Threshold

“Am wind on sea

Am wave swelling

Am ocean’s voice

Am stag of seven clashes”

These are among the first words attributed to Amergin, the poet and seer of the Milesians, as he stepped onto the shores of Ireland. In Irish tradition, this moment is remembered as ‘The Amergin Step’; a crossing from one world into another.

With his foot upon the land, Amergin began naming himself through the forces of nature, discovering identity through the relationship with the living world around him.

For thousands of years, this story has endured as a reminder that there are moments in life when we are invited to step beyond familiar definitions of ourselves. Moments when a new chapter begins to emerge; when previously hidden aspects of our nature find their voice.

The Kingdom County is a landscape made for such crossings. Here, at the western edge of Europe, where mountains meet ocean and land gives way to horizon, the old Irish understanding of threshold still lingers. It is a place that invites curiosity, awakens imagination, and makes the invitation for something new to reveal itself.

May this journey become your own Amergin Step.

A Journey for Who You Are Becoming

Many who come here are standing at a turning point in life. Realignment, reinvention, or the desire for deeper meaning often brings a sense of openness; a readiness to explore the parts of oneself that have been waiting beneath years of responsibility and momentum.

The Kingdom County has a way of revealing what has been quietly waiting within you. The mountains, the ocean, the shifting weather; all of it works gently on the inner world.

People often find themselves overhearing thoughts they didn’t know they still carried, or sensing possibilities that had not yet taken shape.

This is a place where a new identity can be first whispered. Where the hidden fabric of the self begins to unfurl its colors. Where the unknown gently becomes a companion.

The Daily Round

Each morning you will gather for a session of song, story, poetry and myth, opening you up for a day of exploration through the ancient and holy lands of the surroundings. Here the landscape and the soulscape conspire to compose the perfect symphony for this journey of your soul.

Each day, you will walk the pilgrim path to ancient sites and places of stunning natural beauty and mythological significance. The walking will not be strenuous, but on one or two occasions, we will lead a longer walk — to be followed by a delicious supper and the deeper nourishment of companionship and beautiful conversation.

Nourishing Body and Soul

All the makings for a hearty, self-prepared breakfast and light lunch are provided in your cottage. We share an abundant lunch and dinner each day, except for two or three meals on your own. At certain feasts, we will learn about the artisan food culture from those leading the culinary resurgence in Ireland. We will explore the nearby charming town of Kenmare, known across Ireland for its gourmet restaurants, full of local fare and the freshest Atlantic catch.

Historic, Artistic Accomodation

Our home for the week is Parknasilla Resort, one of Ireland's most celebrated coastal estates. Nestled between mountains, woodland, and the Atlantic Ocean, Parknasilla has welcomed artists, writers, and discerning travellers for over 150 years. George Bernard Shaw described it as "a part of our dream world," and it remains a place where natural beauty and hospitality come together in remarkable harmony.

Guests stay in spacious, modern three-bedroom cottages set within the estate's 500 acres of woodland and coastline. Each guest enjoys their own private bedroom, while shared living areas provide space to relax, read, converse, or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings. Outside your door, walking trails wind through ancient woods, across boardwalks, and along the water's edge, with panoramic views of mountains, islands, and sea.

The cottages are just a short stroll from the main hotel, allowing easy access to the estate's amenities, gardens, coastal walks, and gathering spaces.

Food is an integral part of the Kingdom County experience. Throughout the week, nationally renowned and awarded local chef Simon Regan spoils us with generous meals that celebrate the richness of Ireland's food culture. Fresh Atlantic seafood, locally raised meats, seasonal produce, artisan cheeses, traditional baking, and contemporary Irish cuisine all feature prominently. Many of our meals are shared together, creating opportunities for conversation, connection, and the simple pleasure of lingering around the table.
